I swear if my hind legs don't break, then i'm to fall. Animals with four legs were not mean to walk on two. Nanaki knew this, but now knew it better than ever. The dark grey cloak covered him completely, but fell constantly into his eyes. His fur felt dirty.
Undisguised, he would've been recaptured immediately. He didn't exactly pass as normal this way, but it allowed him some passage. At least people left him alone, thinking he was, but a crazy ,hunchbacked elder. This place smells disgusting, but better than the other areas. If I didn't know better, i'd say I could smell...flowers. He had to be wrong. No flowers or plants could possibly grow in this land that had been sucked dry. There was no mistaking it, the scent was faint, but there.
Nanaki stilled, trying to pinpoint the scent amongst the foul city odors. There... is that sunlight? No people were present in the wrecked playground Red XIII passed so he flung off the bothersome cloak. He padded intothe devstated church. Breathing deeply, he lay down in the patch of sunlight, careful to avoid cruching the delicate flowers. Surely whoever cares for these flowers will not harm me...I can always flee if shinra's flunkies present themselves. The sun made his coat shine brightly, matching the fire on his tail and that of his warrior spirit. Bathing in sunlight, it was hard to care. He closed his eyes, allowing himself a cat-nap.
(OOC:I want to pet him! If I had a Nanaki, he'd be my constant companion ^__^)

This turned out to be the weirdest day of his life. Zell couldn't explain how he ended up in a dump like this, standing out completely in front of dozens of townsfolk, and just now a bunch of kids were gawking embarassingly at him. Its like no one had ever seen a teenager with a tattoo before. What was with this place. After being chased out by some mad woman (whether she was mad or not, he couldn't tell, but since he had woken up in her vacant bath tub, he figured on the former) he realized nothing looked even remotely familiar to him. So, what was this place anyway? It didn't look like any part of Balamb, not even the small-time fishing town his parents lived in. Maybe he had eaten something that didn't agree with him (or been doing some heavy drinking?) and now he found him down trodden, hands shoved in his pockets, and letting himself kick whatever unsuspecting scrap metal fell in his way. he did this until a dented spiral plate skidded away from his kick and rebounded off a decrepit church wall. He eyed the building with some interest. Better place than the streets, I guess. Without a second thought, he tiredly, silently, walked through the doors, without regarding his surroundings critically, and slouched on the first pew in reach, having a view of the doors should anyone enter to assault him. Guess it was as good a place as any to sit and think for a while.

An unfamiliar scent drifted into the church, one different from the city and it's people. Getting into a crouch and lowering his tail, he stalked around the pews, trying to get a look at the young man. His tatoo almost reminds me of mine...Careful to keep the tip of his tail away from the pews and flowers, he circled on the outside. I guess he's just resting like me, he doesn't seem to be doing much. Still, better safe than sorry. Staying where he was, flat on his belly, he called out "What are you doing here? you don't smell like Midgar." Not that I have much right to be here either, but people can't know i'm here

"SH--!" The moment the voice had spoken, Zell cursed at himself for daring to close his eyes for a second and jumped where he lay in the pew, throwing his hands up, preparing to fight. "You wanna piece 'a---" He stopped, staring back at the creature that stared at him. "Whoa..." He glanced around quickly for the source of the voice, then taking a hint, he cautiously looked at the noble beast in front of him. "er, nice kitty... you wouldn't happen to be the one who said that, would'ya?" He hoped, nervously, that he wouldn't offend the creature in any way. It looked like it could rip his head off if it tried. He suddenly felt VERY nervous, indeed...

He stood up fully and swished his tail. "I'm not exactly a kitty..." he said uncomfortably. "I guess you're not after me then?" He sighed, what a relief. "However, if you are after me, I can't let you leave. i'm not exactly a typical creature as you can tell." He shifted slightly, keeping hsi fangs covered to avoid scaring him.

Zell regarded the noble beast for a moment. A talking...giant...tiger-lion something or other. What should he do now?
"Um...I haven't been looking for anyone, really. In fact, I haven't seen anyone I recognize, so..." He scratched the back of his head nervously. "I guess I can't say I've been after you. I was just finding a place to stay for the night." The blond suddenly felt ashamed. Was this place home to the creature? Maybe he should've knocked first; it seemed impolite to just barge in without saying hello first. "Sorry for disturbing you," he said, regretfully. Still trying to keep his cool, he watched the being carefully, taking note of whatever features seemed interesting, especially its fiery bright tail, which swayed and swished peacefully back and forth. Now he was really beginning to wonder WHERE he had gotten himself stuck in.

He relaxed, rlenting on the agitated swishing of his tail. "You're really not from around here. Feel free to stay here, t's not my place anymore than it is yours. Just please be quiet, i'm resting." He padding back into his spot which was rather dim by now, the sun almost completely set. Yawning, he stretched, wiggling his toes and rasing his rear before circling and curling back up. One eye remained open for the present time, watching the "foreigner".
"You can call me Red XIII." There was no need to give him his real name.

Kneading the muscles in his hand distractedly, Zell made his way from the turned about pew he had sat it to another one slightly askew, which had a fair view of the door and Red XIII. He still planned on keeping tabs of the only entrance he knew, and a reassuring distance for him and Red XIII to be comfortable with. He'd wanted to use the "kitty" pet name when he thought his curling ritual was suitable "adorable", but feeling Red XIII would become enraged or varibly annoyed, he became tense again. Failing internally to compose himself, he at least tried to look calm as he laced his fingers behind his head and relaxed in his seat, giving what he hoped resembled one of his usually cheerful smiles. First impressions should be honest ones; that was his policy.
"Nice to meetcha', Red. Name's Zell." He watched Red who was watching him in return still. On any other occassion, Zell knew he wouldn't dare to fall asleep with in a strange place with another person watching him. Yet, he didn't feel so wary around him, Red XIII, as he would around a number of others. Somewhat at peace, he felt him and Red were free to fall asleep if they wished, and they might depend on each other if anything came about.

Red XIII nodded his head to acknowledge Zell's name, then rested his head for sleep. Thank moon and stars for the church and a non-hostile human...
THe sun rose, casting shadows and beams of sunlight on and in the church. Yawning, Nanaki did his little stretch that cats (though he had wolf qualities) of all sizes seemed to do. Glancing over the snoozing form of Zell, he decided to see if he could help him when he woke up. Disguise or no diguise, there's no way i'll be able to go around without someone catching. Maybe he can help us with the mission too. Wonder where he's from? However, his stomach began growling so he went to scrounge up some food.

(OOC: Man, if only we had Aeris or Cloud, then we'd go crazy! Feel free to throw in some chaos whenever, though. I'm up for it!)
Zell awoke at some time, some hour that he didn't know. Whatever hour, it was dark and bright outside. Truthfully, everything looked dark, but it was somehow bright enough to see those things. Even though he was in a church, he looked up, and the hole in the ceiling allowed for light to still draw in. The sun was there; instead, a gentle moon was high above the slums, a only a few visible stars were about. So it was night. A good few hours of sleep. That was good.
What wasn't was the empty spot among the flower bed. Red XIII was gone.
"Oh $#@!," he murmured. Was Red okay? Maybe he just went to the bathroom; that was always his excuse in class. Not that every teacher would believe him and let him leave, but...
The silent church held moving shadows, mostly above on the rafters. Zell scoured the beams for the moving source, and he spotted Red keenly balanced on the rafters, looking either like a hungry prowler or satisfied king. It wasn't easy to tell either way, because Zell's stomach was running on empty right now. Way empty.
"Shouldn't've skipped breakfast..." ...And lunch... and dinner, as a matter of fact. The weird situation had only momentarily distracted his mind from hunger since he got here. "Wonder if Red--" Should he ask? ...Nah, probably not a good idea. Besides, if they were both fugitives in this place (or at least outcasts from the neighborhoods, but you can look at it any way you want)they would have to feed themselves on their own.
Yeah, some real sense in that logic.
Hours ago, it was "we might end up depending on each other." Now it was "but let's not eat each other's food." What a hypocrite he was, and he realized it. Deciding not to dwell on it, he stood up and tried to figure out where to scavenge for food. If all else failed, he hoped there were some snack bars left in his pockets, somewhere. It was always likely something was still somewhere on his person.

(OOC:I know! I originally came here hoping I could have fun with an Aeris! it's so sad) Loping back into the church, Red XIII spotted Zell. "Ah, you're up." He mumbled around a sack he was carrying in his mouth. He put it down. "I've already eaten, it's not much, but I scrougned some food." He stepped back from the bag and sat down. While searching for food, Nanaki searched around for possible allies. From the rumors and gossip he picked up, the rebel group AVALANCHE would be his best bet for allies.
Somebody must care for these flowers, that's the only reason they would be able to survive in a place like this.
He swung his attention and head back to the blond. "I guess you don't know really this area. I plan on staying here for most of the day, but come night, i'm heading for a bar called 'Seventh Heaven'. Would you like to come?" He was sligthly uncomfortable asking a stranger for help, but he didn't have many options. "Even with a cloak, I draw a lot of attention. You could help me with that. If you wish to stay here, that's fine too." I only want the willing. I'm not very good with humans sometimes.
Nanaki looked around again. " Iwonder who takes care of these flowers?" he murmued while holding his nose to them.
(OOC: Come to me Aeris!)

"Um, excuse me? Do you two need something?"
In the doorway of the church there stood a young woman carrying a small basket with a few assorted flowers inside. Her long brown hair was pulled back with a pink ribbon to show off her green eyes, yet it still seemed to flow effortlessly down the shoulders of her pink dress. She walked quietly past the pews, her brown boots softly touching the floor with barely a sound as she walked. She saw that the catlike animal was smelling her flowers, which made her smile.
"Do you like my flowers?" She asked him. "I can give you some, if you want. There's plenty to go around."

He hadn't even sensed her coming. Her presence was peaceful, gentle. Not surprising that she's a flower girl. I guess all sorts really are forced to live here. Her scent was like that of the flowers she kept, but different. Recoiling in surprise, Nanaki realized her eyes were the same green as Sephiroth's. Yet so different. Hers lack the violence, anger, and coolness. No, there's no connection, i'm jumping at shadows. Maybe it's a sign though.
"They're very pretty. No thank you, I wouldn't want to displace any of them. You've done a remarkable job, keeping them in alive in a place like Midgar. I'm sorry to intrude. It's a pleasure to meet you, i'm known as Red XIII." He bent his front legs to lower his head to his paws, an animal's version of a bow.
Who are you young lady?

She thought it was strange that anyone would walk into the Church. It had been abandoned for years, and was the one place that she felt safe in when Midgar's chaos felt as though it were beginning to close in on her. There seemed to be a gentleness to the two men there, especially the animal who had spoken to her. He seemed special...yet pained. As though he were desperate for some kind of help.
Aeris smiled softly. "Thank you. This church is special...It's the only place where flowers grow in all of Midgar." She walked closer to the animal and sat beside the flowers, gently stroking at the petals of one left in her basket. "My name is Aeris Gainsborough. It's nice to meet you."

The blond gave an abrupt wave. "Pleasure, ma'am. Name's Zell Dincht." He didn't know he had intruded on a pretty lady's garden; it made him suddenly shy. He was grateful, though, for a lot of reason. For one, the church was his shelter of the day, and for another the flowers had brought a truly peaceful atmosphere to the rather hostile environment. There was also the useful conversation she and Red XIII had started up, which gave him some information, though it was virtually useless to him at the moment. Midgar was obviously a very unfertile or unsupportive place for wildflowers, maybe wildlife in general. That was one explanation to Red XIII's hiding.
"We didn't mean to disturb your flowers. You can keep 'em, though. Be a shame to pull 'em up when they look good where they are." He smiled sheepishly. Then, still remaining charming, he said to Red, "I'll go wherever you go," and tried his best to compose himself in front of Aeris' gentle gaze.
