If it were possible, Squall would have pulverized someone right then and there.
Rinoa had walked away, terribly distressed, he could tell, and that fox woman had been just as annoyed, though her anger didn't faze him at all.
People keep changing. So does circumstance. Friends today might be enemies tomorrow. Why should anyone trust anybody if there's a chance they'll turn on one another? ... The world fends for itself. People shouldn't be so trusting in anyone, especially me.
Squall felt stern in his conviction, but he couldn't explain some irritating tug inside, something that made his face fall with impossible speed. He didn't need anyone. No one needed him. It was that simple. There was no escape; you learned to adjust and live a life. That was it.
So why was it so hard to move back to the group and keep up his heavy glower? Why couldn't he sit across from Rinoa and not feel... hard to describe.
Stupid?... Clueless?... Isolated?... Alone.... Empty.
Zell was busy sitting in the circle of people on the ground, telling some jokes that, as far as he knew, no one was listening to.
"So the pirate says, 'Argh, it's driving me nuts!' " There were scattered hints of rustling, but nothing that sounded like amusement. He gave up and slumped over. "Oh, what's the use? I can't think of a good story." He turned to the dark-clad teen to his side, on the other side of Yuffie and next to Vincent. "Hey, Squall! Got any memories to tell?" His mocking inquiry irked his companion even more, only to return a cruel retaliation:
"How about the time you rode your hover board through the Garden and careened into the girl's bathroom?"
"AHH! HEY!!!" Before he could stop Squall, and before anyone else had reacted, Zell was already turning a deep crimson.

"Now this I must hear..." Vincent said, a smile playing across his usually dark, emotionless features. Instinctively, he pulled Yuffie closer to him, resting his head on top of hers and wrapping his arms around her. He didn't know why, but she seemed to silence the voices speaking to him inside his head. He knew he had to feed soon if he wished to keep the minimum amount of control he had obtained but her presence seemed to silence his demons, shutting them off almost completely from his mind.
"Join us Squall. It is like we are a pack...a very rag tag and odd pack, but a pack nonetheless. To lighten the mood, I propose we each recount a story from our lives. It does not necesarilly have to be humorous, I just believe those are the only type any of us are willing to share with anyone. So, since you were the one to give me the idea, why don't you start, Squall? I am anxious to hear of this little 'accident' of Zell's and how badly he was beaten afterwards..."
((OOC: YOU came back, TerryShadow!!! YAY!!! The forum died without you because we all were waiting on your characters!!! GWAH!!!!!))

Yuffie wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face into his shoulder, smiling softly. She felt comfortable in Vincent's arms, as though they were meant to be together forever for some reason.
Aeris sighed and coughed loudly to gain everyone's attention. "If you'd all like, perhaps we could carry on this conversation over dinner?" She gestured to inside the house. "I realize that there are a lot of people here, so perhaps we can all get something to eat and then come back here."
Yuffie's stomach suddenly growled loudly as if on cue. "Wow, food sounds really good right about now.." She said, muffled by the fabric of Vincent's coat.

A full blown smile graced Vincent's face at the sound of Yuffie's stomach. He smiled so rarely, it was difficult to tell if it were a true smile, but this one marked his ammusement so obviously. He looked down at Yuffie and chuckled in that masculine way that makes a girl shiver. A hand in her hair, Vincent easily wrapped his other arm around her legs (you know, like back of knees) and stood, ending up holding her in his arms in something close to bridal style.
He placed her feet on the ground, but kept an arm wrapped arond her shoulders, both to steady her and to maintain the closeness they had had sitting down. Once he was standing, Vincent realized sharply that he could not keep ignoring his own hungers. The subject of food had ade him realize that, but Yuffie had caused him to forget that problem for a few minutes, but now that he was up and waiting, he had downtime, time to think on the problem.
His smile fading, eyes becoming darker, Vincent detached from Yuffie and strode toward Aeris. He bowed gentlemanly to her. "I appreciate the offer of food, and thankyou for inviting me into your home, knowing what I am, and yes, I am aware that you know. But, because you know, I ask that you forgive me for me departure. I must go and find my own food, as you know. I thank you once more for your hospitality. I promise to not leave without word with my companions, so I will be back shortly, Miss Aeris." He spoke softly, making sure only she heard his words. Not waiting for a reply, he turned and walked away from her, but before he disappeared completely into the growing shadows of the night, he stopped in from of his companions. "Do not let my absence disrupt your dinner. I will be back shortly after I have completed a personal errand." He said monotonously, as if he were masking something, hiding away something important from them, something he obviously did not want them to know. Although he spoke coldly, his eyes showed his concern for them. Hugging Yuffie one last time, he sauntered away, disappearing into the night.
'If I do not feed soon, I am going to end up losing control...' Vincent thought morosely, as his boots soundlessly hit the ground as he walked toward the more populated part of the city. He stopped abruptly. After tying his long black hair into a pony tail, Vincent continued on toward the city, this time not catching his hair on bushes and knotting it in the slight breeze.
((I am introducing Cloud soon, so I am warning y'all. And yes, I am aware that Vincent drinking blood is never stated but the guy never eats!!! And it is widely rumoured, and it fits, so it goes for now. Anyway, now that Vincent is no longer at Aerith's house and Cloud has to come in, if youre character flollwed Vince, I am making a new thread in this catacgory to meet Cloud and AVALANCHE. ))

Zell shook away the red from his face, astounded by the unabashed display from the percieved-ominous stranger of a man. Jumping up to the invitation, he scampered past Aeris, grabbed a plate from a stack in the kitchen, and went around the makeshift buffet table to pile his desired share of food.
Squall, on the other hand, fell quiet after Vincent and Yuffie had broke off any chance to humiliate Zell further. Instead, he watched Vincent's departure as long as possible before getting up and following the rest to the table. He stopped to talk to Aeris, "Sorry for Zell's anxiousness. And thank you for providing so much dinner for us." He gave a small appreciative smile before heading inside. Zell was already overloading his plate, so the gunblade wielder had to keep him in check.

"Of course, it's no problem at all." Aeris smiled. "Help yourselves, there's plenty of food!"
Yuffie watched sadly as Vincent disappeared, confused as to where he was headed. where would he be going...?" She wondered. The curious feeling that something wasn't quite right bit at her and itched almost like a mosquito: She couldn't leave it alone. Sighing, she forgot about the food and left the party, running off to follow the man she loved.
