Squall could sense the stength behind her eyes. Something formidable and devastating... it somehow seemed nostalgic to something he knew before, but it didn't resemble the eyes he knew, the eyes he remembered a long time ago... but who--
Hard-headed and reckless, Zell thought he saw an opening, and he charged to sweep a kick under the woman's legs. She easily dodged his attempt and found himself the target of a streamline stroke to the neck. He was grateful for the familiar blade that blocked and parried the easy deathblow near his face. Squall wanted to whap him across the head, but found the situation inappropriate for a reprimand. The woman was indeed distracted by something, and Squall had a feeling he was more than connected by now.

Who was he to her? She could not place a name to the face she saw before her. Of course, the one she remembered was far younger than the man who stood in front of her, but it was the same nonetheless. Blocking her attck on the annoying blonde, she knew she recognized him, but from where?
Picking through her brain, she found broken strands of memory, pathways that led off to dead ends, places that had been long since erased. One thread in particular caught her eye. She remembered a hazy event, she was just a child then but another, only a few years younger than herself stood beside her, clinging to her hand. She remembered herself whispering to the boy "It's alright S____, mommy and daddy are in a better place now..." The name was a complete blur, all she knew was that it had began with an S. The boy was obviously her brother, but without a name she had no way of knowing if the boy from her scant memories and the man before her were the same person.
Think, Liath!! S...uhm...? Steve? No, that is not it....Samuel...no....Sq...But what is next? Squ....Squirrel? NO!! That is not is not it!! Squi..no...more like Squa. Squar? No. Squad? No. Squat? NO!! Squaz? No...Squall....It sounds almost familiar but I cannot be sure....
Testing her memory, in a moment of sheer trust, she sheatehed her blade. Searching the man's face for a sign of reconition, she asked quietly,
"Squall...?"

The man's eyes widened, but he kept his gunblade at the ready, the magnum wheel full with bullets. The woman had some recognition of him, but he kept his distance, allowing Zell the time to scramble away. The blond barely got to his feet before his mouth was flapping again.
"An old friend of yours?" Squall shook his head.
"Not that I remember." A few more faces had dared to peek out of the kitchen door and window, staring at the cluster outside. "What do you want here?" the man asked sternly.

Quick on his paws, Nanaki dashed outside. He froze briefly in shock as his eyes registered the silver haired man, none other than Sephiroth. He watched in surprise when Sephritoh kicked the also silver haired for-girl. Slightly digusted at the man's treatment of what Nanaki supposed was his servant, he backed up to take in the situation more fully.
He was prepared to jump in if necessary, Squall seemed like he was doing fine until... How does this girl know him? He doesn't know her and she's not exactly a person you would forget in a hurry. Shw's probably been experimented on...Hojo, you bastard. Snarling in frustration, he kept his eyes on Sephiroth.
Rinoa was still trying to figure out what Squall's warning could mean when trouble erupted outside. I can't really fight with out my blaster edge, What should I do? Watching the tussle between Squall and the fox girl, she knew she was by far outclassed physically.
The battle paused, the look on the girl's face far from hostile, which puzzled Rinoa to say the least. She looks...almost happy. She does know him. Tense expression softening, Rinoa regarded the girl curiously to see what would happen next.

Seeing the momentary pause in the man's eyes, she knew she was right, although she was almost certain his memory was almost as warped as her own.
Adding to her own stupidity, in a blur of speed, she darted around the outstretched gunblade pointed at her and drew the man into a tight embrace.
"It is you!! I haven't seen you in years!" She paused for a moment, holding the man at arms length. Her smile faded a few watts, realizing he was still immensily confused. Liath lifted her hand to the man's face, lightly tracing a clawed finger across his scar.
"Can't leave you alone for a second, now can I? Who did this to you while I was away?" She asked softly. As she touched his scar, another name came uninhibited to her mind, a name she was also familiar with but by touching her brother, now associated with pain and rivalry.
"Was it ...Seifer?" She let the name leave her lips, still feeling the strangeness of it passing through her mind.

"Who the h--" Squall yelled gruffly, pulling himself barely out of the woman's hands.
"Hm... a psychic, maybe?" Zell offered to the bewildered man. "She must have some connection to ya to know about an air-head like Seifer."
Sometimes, Zell had a really big mouth, and if he had been within range, Squall might've shut him up with a punch to the face. As an after thought, maybe it wouldn't've been like that...
"I'll ask again: who are you? And how do you know me?" His fists were clenched in frustration, and he was beginning to wonder what was going on with every new face he met today.

She sighed, visibly upset that he did not know who she was. Obviously, they had screwed with his mind as well, easily deleting her from his memories as if she never existed as a person.
"My name is Liath...and no, I am not a psychic. I took care of you when we were younger, son't you remember me, Squall?" She asked shakily, her eyes growing more and more distressed with each word she spoke.

Sephiroth glared down from above watching how they interacted she is mine.... he thought but held his reaction to go down and slaughter them all mercilessly and instead waited to see the Ancient and the puppet.

Smile fading, she worriedly watched Squall. It was obviously causing Liath pain, so why couldn't Squall remember someone who was obviously important? A relative? An ex-lover of friend? the blue angel thought bewilderedly.
"Squall...Are you sure she isn't familiar? She isn't a psychic, she's genuine. I believe that." She spoke with conviction, sadly looking at Liath. "Even you should be able to see that!" As she spoke, she looked Squall right in the face, raven locks swaying.

As the dark-haired woman defended her, she felt a new respect toward the woman. A shaky smile formed on her lips.
"It is alright. I can understand if he does not recognize me. After all, I can imagine how different I look now. I think I was around nine when our parents died. We stayed together for a few years but were eventually seperated, Squall sent to Balamb Garden, and I was taken to one of Hojo's labs. They didn't need him so they sent him to become a soldier." The look in her eyes betrayed her sorrow, her anger at being unable to defend her brother then, despite her young age at the time.

Slowly, calmly, Squall sheathed his gunblade and folded his arms. "Excuse me?" The two ladies were starting to tread on his nerves. "I don't remember you, and I don't remember being sent sent anywhere by a guy named Hojo." He bowed his head, now frustrated because the thoughts he had been preoccupying himself with minutes ago were now being forcibly drawn to the open in front of all eyes. "I was..." He blinked, then massaged his eyes when he couldn't shape out the fuzziness in his head. Something about a windmill, country air replaced by the salty sea, a lighthouse, and a stone structure that served as a house, a place brimming with children and their rambunctousness... those places seemed familiar, but this woman didn't. Something like a dream... He recalled a bunch of his so-called "friends", the loud mouth and the bully, and the war-addicted adventurers who played outside, and the bossy girl who always tried to justify herself no matter what good or bad she did. There was one girl who had been with him a long time. Something told him she wasn't... Wasn't what? Normal? Human? Real? No... She was real enough... but she wasn't his sister... but every day he called her that... ...Sis... That's not right. She wasn't his sister. Ellone. She was "Sis" to everyone because she was the eldest... If that was right, why was everything still so hazy? What was he missing here? What couldn't he remember!?! (OOC: I know, I know. Complications. I didn't want to throw in more FF8 ties like this, but I guess I'm too accustomed to them now. I can tell you guys are having too much fun making this moody kid an involved shmoe. Deep down, I'm sure he feels loved. Sorry if I limited you all too much. Guess I got carried away )

"You wouldn't have been privy to that information, or have come in contact with the name Hojo. You were taken to a place similar to what would seem like an orphenage, where they could watch you. " Liath smiled wistfully, unconsciously running a hand through her silver hair. Realizing her gesture, she held a piece of her hair in her fingers close to her face. "How stupid of me!! Ok, here, this is the best I can do...my talen doesn't lie in illusions, so bear with me. Back then, we were obviously younger, I had no tail, no fox ears, no silver coloured hair, and no fangs...I don't remember exactly what I did look like, I just know it was different, more...normal." Stepping closer to Rinoa, the only one other than her brother that she truly respected. Not counting the Ancient, but she had not earned the respect yet in Liath's eyes, it just came with her power and title. Not seeing a spark of familiarity in Squall's eyes, her cheerful demeanor vanished as if it had never been. Her facade crumbled away under the strain of maintaining it. Her eyes glazed over slightly. "He was right...Any from my past would never believe me...Forgetting would have been easier..." She murmured quietly, her voice only reaching Rinoa's ears, and possibly Sephiroth's.
((OOC: It is cool!! If you think of it, Liath wouldn't be with him then anyway....It would have been earlier. And besides, it wouldn't work if Squall just ran full out into her arms exclaiming his love! UCK!))

(OOC:eeeh...I need to visit here more often...i'm so CONFUSED...)
Aeris was finishing up all of the food when she realized that everyone had suddenly run off. Confused, she removed her apron and walked out of the house, hearing what sounded like shouts and regular talking from outside. "Is everything alright?" She asked, curious as to what was going on that could make everyone run off without her notice like that.
----------------
Yuffie snuck up to the group and blended in as though she had been there from the beginning. When she found Vincent she walked up to him and grabbed hold of his hand gently. "So, is this where you ran off to without us?" She said, a teasing tone in her voice. "You know, you could've let us know where you were going..."

Vincent stifled a laugh, his face reddening slightly. He cleared his throat, going back to his usual morbid demeanor.
"I did not know I would be here so soon...I got blown off course as I was scouting ahead of you guys and ran into them. Then through mishaps with magical devices, we ended up here, exactly where I was headed originally." He paused and looked around.
"If you are here, Sephiroth is no doubt watching somewhere nearby. Oh, I would have called you guys but I know you like to mess with our cell phones so I figured I would run into you soon enough." Vincent smiled slightly at the small girl beside him, looking down slightly.
Getting tired of the dispute in front of him, Vincent grabbed Squall's shoulder and turned him to face him. "Ok, you say you do not remember this girl, correct? Squall, I hate to say this, but it does seem likely that she is telling the truth. I have traveled with her and I have yet to see her get this emotional over anything, least of all a person. If she is actually upset by this, it must be important to her. So, either to prove Liath is lying or that Squall has a memory gap, I am going to attempt to teach you a method of remembering."
He glanced back at Yuffie and shook his head.
"No, I am not going to blast him with Lifestream energy...That only affected me in that particular way." He turned his attention back to the stoic man before him.
"Right...Close your eyes. Don't worry, I am not going to try anything. Relax. Think of nothing but empty space, darkness even. It is difficult, I know, but you must try."

Whirling on Liath, Rinoa grabbed hold of Laith's hand with both of her own. "You can't just give up! He's obviously important to you, so i'm sure he'll remember in time. Forgetting may be easier, but we must cherish whatever ties we have in this world or else we could be alone."
Clutching the ring on her necklace with her right hand, she searched her memory. Do I know her from somewhere? No, of course not...how would I? Good luck Vincent, trying to get Squall to relax.
"I'm missing memories too, i'd like to get them back. This may be his and your's only chance."
(OOC:If I recall correctly, wasn't Rinoa, Zell, as well as the others at the orphanage too?)
